Dear Ageless Traveler,
I’ve been saying for years that travel is great for your health, but I’m amazed at the recent reports proving that travel is a boon to longevity.
New research, Science Says Travel Might Actually Slow Down Aging, makes the case that travel gives you better health AND more years on the planet. And the National Institute on Health, UK REPORTS: “Long-distance travel is positively related to higher cognitive function…. International travelers reported the best health across all three outcomes, with the highest cognitive function, the lowest level of loneliness, and the fewest depressive symptoms.”
So, this week’s Travel Tuesday focuses on active and long-distance travel. The type that leads to the most health benefits. Here’s what you can access:
Active Travel
Theatre
- A shout-out to theatre travel, which the Greeks thought was so therapeutic that they put theatres in their hospitals.
- My invitation to view a “hilarious” Shakespeare play in Los Angeles. Meet me at the bar! (We’ll drink to our health.)
And More
- An invitation to travel with us on safari to Kenya and Tanzania, Africa, for the active adventure of a lifetime. Your deadline is May 30. Please tell me if you are going.
- Meet my new best friend! I invite you to subscribe to Sally Zings’ Free Wellness Wednesday, a 60-minute online program featuring cutting-edge age-health researchers, best-selling authors, and health professionals. There will be a live Q and A. On April 16, 2025, Sally offers The Link Between Blood Sugar and Brain Health from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM Pacific.
PS
If you want to help the kids of Myanmar (I visited years ago, and they had it rough—the earthquake made it worse), please donate to the Child Fund, specifically for kids in Myanmar. The dedicated fund is at the top of the website. Help if you can.

On this Week’s Podcast: Bicycling Vacations by the Author of Bicycling Through Oregon
“Cycling allows me to explore and discover places I might not otherwise go.” Dan Shryock
|
Join us as we cycle through the stunning landscapes of Oregon with Dan Shryock, author of Cycling Across Oregon. Dan’s practical advice for novice cyclists is one of the most encouraging parts of our conversation.
Dan suggests trying out a comfortable bike and exploring local parks before committing to longer rides and explains the benefits of e-bikes. Whether you ride solo or with a group, the connections formed during these journeys can last a lifetime. Dan’s experiences reflect a growing community of cyclists who share a love for adventure and exploration. A companion podcast is my interview with solo biker Heidi Beierle, Author of Bicycling Across America.

Bicycle and Walk Through Lucca Tuscany and Vancouver BC
|
|
|
In Touring Victoria, BC, and the Vancouver Island Rainforest by Bike, author Dan Shryock visits Victoria, B.C., Canada, which may be the most bike-friendly city in the Pacific Northwest.
It certainly rivals Montreal and Vancouver, which are nearby for Canadian honors. The provincial capital, famous for its Inner Harbour, Fairmont Empress Hotel, and Butchart Gardens, is a great cycling destination.
Discover the best bike paths, sightseeing, and restaurants with an interactive map for easy booking.
In Cycling and Walking Through History and Charm, I take you through the ultimate Tuscan Town, Lucca, Italy, with interactive maps so you can easily make this dream trip a reality. Nestled in the heart of Tuscany, Lucca welcomes travelers with its timeless charm and rich history. Dan Shryock (who pedaled through Lucca) and I (who walked) love its ancient streets. But if you have trouble navigating their cobblestone streets, a car will take you to all the best sights. Our blog features a two-day tour with an interactive map, itinerary, best hotels and festivals.

Theatre is Therapeutic
“Every time you go to a live performance, you feel new feelings, and the comedy or tragedy has a cathartic effect.”
