Dear Ageless Traveler,
I learned an unfamiliar word this week: “tsundoku“. It means buying books you have no intention of reading.
I used to do that—no more. When I buy books now, I read them to the end. That is one of many changes that have come about as I age. I no longer have the money or the time to pursue that in which I am not interested.
Also, what I read now has changed, like this article on peptides. Healthspan is the central theme in this week’s podcast on longevity. Let’s put the ageless in The Ageless Traveler.
So, here is my point for this week. Since I wrote to you last week, I have been to Las Vegas, had my teeth fixed in Tijuana, spent a glorious two days in the wine country of Mexico at Valle de Guadalupe, heard an Adelle cover concert, and spent the night under the stars in the Mojave Desert. And that’s just what I can remember.
Boy, am I lucky! I know that this can’t happen without my health. That is why I present this week’s surprise podcast, which is not about travel but about longevity. Two top guns of healthspan, Bernard Siegel on the Healthspan Coalition and stem cell research, Aubrey De Grey, the Dean of Longevity.
No, I am not veering from travel writing. I am ensuring that you and I will Never Stop Traveling.
As usual, I cover segments on:
- Ask Adriane: On towns near National Parks
- News You Can Use: On National Park fees and TSA regulations
- Culture Vulture: On Raising a Glass in Paris
- Luxury Travel for Less: On Healing Retreats

Longevity and HealthSpan for the 60+ Traveler

“Our goal is to declare healthspan a fundamental human right.” Bernard Siegal, Health Span Coalition
Without health there is no Ageless Travel.
In this enlightening episode I give you takeaways from the recent Las Vegas Raadfest Conference on healthy longevity.
I interviewed two eminent conference speakers, Dr. Aubrey De Grey on the future of healthspan, living longer healthfully and advocate and Bernard Siegel, a co-founder of the Health Span Action Coalition, about consumer awareness of medical tourism and the rise of stem cell tourism for longevity.

Raising a Glass in Paris
I will be in Paris for two or three days in late August. I will devote myself to art and food. I will visit pastry shops (and one day take my granddaughter as promised), eat at the district Le Marais for kosher food, the only place in the world I am tempted to eat steak, and perhaps take a train to Epernay for the Champagne Houses.
Paris holds a baguette competition every year. I will indulge in a culinary tour of bread, chocolates, and pastries. For specific restaurant experiences, check out my podcast interview with Irvina Lew. And, here’s my pick out of the many possible culinary tours.

“Honestly, I’ve spent my life in luxury, but sometimes I get uncomfortable when it’s just luxury for luxury’s sake. If there’s no deeper contribution, I’m not interested. Purpose and pleasure aren’t mutually exclusive.” Niel Jacobs of Wild Origins, a new health and healing hotel chain.
Here are five recommendations for a healing retreat from our expert Peter Anderson. Hear his latest interview on The Ageless Traveler.
Arkana Retreats Peru and more countries.
Pritikin Center Florida
Rhythmia Costa Rica
Revivor Resorts, Bali
Omega US, various locations
Healing retreats can be life-changing, but also expensive. Check your local health services flyer for neighborhood massage, nutritionists, gym, sound bathing, yoga, and spiritual coaching. I take one day every three months for $125 at the Sec He hot springs in Palm Springs and sound bathing in the Integratron in Landers, CA, near Joshua Tree for $75. I built a recurring, affordable healing regimen for myself locally.
