Welcome to The Ageless Traveler’s Almost Mother’s Day issue! Happy Mother’s Day to you all. My Mom and Aunt brought me up, so I know that every woman is a mother figure to someone.
Every Mother, and, for that matter, every person, has a brand, a part of their personality that comes through no matter where and no matter when, at every age. As the travel saying goes, “Wherever you go, there you are.” My mother’s brand was “You deserve it.” She wanted everyone to realize their worth and not be afraid to pursue their dreams. Her other statement was “My money’s on you!” And people would go off with greater confidence in themselves.
In this week’s newsletter, I have a few “let’s do it” prompts to inspire you to fulfill your travel dreams:

The Power of Connection Across Generations
“We need to know who we are so that we can make the most focused and intentional impact.” Cairo Eubanks
Hear Cairo Eubanks, a passionate global youth advocate and the founder of Cairo Speaks/ Cairo Writes. Cairo introduces you to Together for SDGs, which aims to create spaces for intergenerational connections that accelerate the achievement of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
One of the highlights of our discussion is Cairo’s extensive travel experience, visiting over 30 countries. This exposure has not only shaped her worldview but also reinforced her belief that despite our differences, people around the globe share common aspirations.
She noted, “Traveling is hazardous to your prejudice,” highlighting how travel can humanize us and bridge cultural divides.
Portugal’s UNESCO city: The town of Évora—just an hour outside of Lisbon—is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the capital of the Alentejo region. This destination is celebrated for its diverse architectural heritage, featuring ancient Roman ruins such as the Temple of Diana, alongside Moorish influences and royal palaces. Travelers can explore the town’s social history through guided walking tours or gain a unique perspective of the surrounding cork-filled plains via early morning hot air balloon flights.
For accommodations, the Octant Évora offers a minimalist retreat that utilizes local materials like wood and cork to blend into the rural landscape. Ultimately, the area provides a blend of rich cultural legacy and tranquil modern luxury for those seeking a comprehensive Portuguese city break.
Volcano Culture: Costa Rica’s most active volcano,Arenal, has been quiet since 2010.
Arenal Volcano National Park has two parts: the Main Sector and the Peninsula Sector. If you’re up for a short hike, choose the former—the two main trails (Las Coladas and El Ceibo) create an easy loop through lava rocks and rainforest. At the intersection, climb up a set of somewhat steep stairs for an incredible view of the volcano and Lake Arenal.
You can also see the lake and volcano from the Peninsula Sector, though the view of Arenal Volcano isn’t as good. But the paved, less-than-a-mile trail might make up for it, especially if you’re with kids or pressed for time.
