Dear Ageless Traveler,

The other day, my friend introduced me as her “travel lifestyle guru.” I was flattered. Then I began to think that this is not exactly true. Yes, I traveled through Europe and the Middle East when I was only eleven, and I traveled with my children by the time they were three months old, and I’m about to travel to my 132nd country in November. But I do not live a travel lifestyle.

I have many friends who do. They are “travel nomads.” They don’t have a job or a home. They travel for a living and make their money creating content around their trips. That’s not me.

I live a traditional lifestyle infused by travel. My expertise is to show anyone, under any circumstances, how to FIT travel into their life so they Never Stop Traveling!

I figured out how to have a full-time job with a boss in my 30s and 40s and still travel. I figured out how to have a radio show every Sunday and yet leave by Sunday night and be back for the show six days later. Hardest of all, I figured out how to be a parent and travel with toddlers. I still travel with my kids and grandchildren. Now, at age 77, I travel about three or more months of the year.

Here’s how I help you to Never Stop Traveling!

On Our Podcast

How to be a Voluntourist: Combining Sightseeing and Good Works

Voluntouring can be just a buzzword, or it can change your life and the lives of others.

In this week’s podcast I interview Lorraine Keenan creator of Hero Holidays in South Africa. You’ll discover how she manages a weekend camp for fifty-two girls from South Africa who have never seen the African Bush.

“My purpose” says Lorraine is to ”catch them before they fall.” Imagine the joy that the Voluntours feel in helping these young women.

Or if conservation is your mission, travel with Lorraine to a beautiful game ranch, enjoy safari and discover how to protect the environment.

Many of you have told me that your favorite podcast episode was my interview with Natascha Drabbe the founder of Iconic Houses, an organization dedicated to preserving the homes of architects. I am thrilled that the nonprofit Iconic Houses is now featuring UNESCO homes. From Gaudí’s to Rietveld’s, these architectural gems translate modern life into living spaces with a philosophy.

If you missed the episode, and you love beautiful houses, listen here and read more here.

Culture Vulturing Around the World

Autumn in the Loire Valley

I’ve been to the Loire Valley before—but autumn is truly the best season for us culture vultures. The air is crisp, the vineyards are turning gold, and the region seems to burst with art, heritage, and celebration. The Loire Valley, called the “Garden of France,” is hosting a lineup of extraordinary festivals. I have included traditional September and October festivals so you can plan for next year.

Le Festival de Loire, held in Orléans every two years, a UNESCO World Heritage destination- 200 traditional riverboats and seven hundred mariners from all over Europe recreate the 19th-century port life of the Loire. And if you love castles and grand homes, Chateau du Rivau offers a spectacular Autumn Festival for garden lovers with its Gargantua Vegetable Garden of giant pumpkins, storytelling, and workshops.

For me it’s AR[t]CHIPEL Festival, still on through November 2, which partnered with the Centre Pompidou in Paris. It is an art safari of modern masters installed in various Loire Valley settings—châteaux, cloisters, gardens, and private estates.
